South Tamar Mission Community

Sydenham Damerel

St Mary, Sydenham Damerel

St Mary’s church is set in the heart of the village of Sydenham Damerel and is well loved and cared for by the whole village community.

Just up the hill from the Tamar river and the ancient HorseBridge, Sydenham Damerel is on the edge of Devon county, just before Cornwall.

Every first Saturday of the month, St Mary’s hosts a village coffee morning, and the church has some marvellous bell ringers, ringing the 6 bells in the tower.

Church services are held every other Sunday, alternating between Holy Communion at 10.30am and Songs of Praise at 6.30pm, with also a peaceful Taize service on the last Tuesday of the month at 7pm.

The church holds other community events such as Quiz nights and has an active Friends Group who help raise funds for this precious ancient church.

St Mary’s is a medieval church Circa 15th Century, and the tower and porch are original. The nave suffered a fire in 1957 and was sympathetically rebuilt incorporating some medieval fenestration.

The church welcomes visitors to this spiritual place.
